Conference Paper
Award Competitions
Please read requirements below before applying for an award.  

Junior and Senior Scholar Competition 

AARWR has established a non-monetary prize competition an award category for registered conference presenters who hold tenure-track faculty, emerita/us, and other senior scholar positions. 

Student Paper Competition

AARWR invites its student members to compete for its best undergraduate and graduate student paper award. The award includes cash honoraria for the first, second, and third place papers. 

Only registered students who have had a paper accepted and will present this paper at the current meeting are eligible.

Independent Scholar Paper Competition

AARWR invites its independent scholar members to compete for its best independent scholar paper awards. This award include cash honoraria. 

​Only non-student and non-tenure track scholars, including post-doctoral scholars and adjunct lecturers, who have had a paper accepted and will present this paper at the current meeting are eligible. 

Dr. Souad T. Ali Award: Best Progressive Research Paper in Islamic Studies

AARWR invites members to compete for the Dr. Souad T. Ali: Best progressive research paper in Islamic Studies award. This award include cash honoraria.

​The Islamic Studies unit co-chairs adjudicate this award. 

Requirements for Submission to Conference Paper Award Competitions

Eligible entries must be papers already accepted for presentation at the annual conference.  Winning entrants must be registered for the conference and must present their papers in person (virtual in cases of fully virtual conferences). Only participants who have had a paper accepted, registered for the conference, and will present this paper at the annual meeting qualifies for this award.  

Awards will be announced and given at the AAR/WR reception at the conference, thus winners must attend the reception to receive their awards.

​To be considered for the first three awards, applicants should send digital copies of their finished papers to Dr. Emily Silverman, Past President AARWR, by February 18, 2023. (
